Tosh
Scottish Conservative MSP for the West of Scotland
Murray Tosh (54) was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999
and has served as Deputy Presiding
Officer since late 2001. He was previously the Conservative spokesman
for Transport and the Environment in the Parliament. He is one of two
Scottish Conservative MSPs for the West of Scotland, along with Annabel Goldie.
Murray was born in Ayr, and has lived in Ayrshire
for most of his life. Educated at Kilmarnock Academy, Murray
is a graduate of Glasgow University and Jordanhill College of
Education. He was formerly the Principal Teacher of History
at Belmont Academy in Ayr. He and his wife, Christine, have
two adult sons and a daughter.
Before becoming an MSP, Murray was a District
Councillor, for a Troon Ward. From 1992-96, he was the Convener
of his Council's Housing Committee and he remains a member of
a local housing association committee.
An avid reader of historical and political
books, Murray also follows cricket and football. He is a keen
hill-walker, and has climbed all of Scotland's Munros.
